Origin: China\nStatus: Organic\nCertification: Certified Organic to China Organic Standards ISO 22000 2018\nBrand: Simply Natural\nSpecifications: 50g (5g x 10 vacuum-packed sachets)\nIngredients: 100% organic burdock\nHighlights: Great burdock, (Arctium lappa) 牛蒡 Niú bàng or ゴボウ Gobō, belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae) and like other members such as dandelion, feverfew and echinacea is prized for its beneficial properties. Native to Europe and Northern Asia it has long been part of traditional medicine and diets.\n\nOur organic burdock is of the Japanese variety first grown successfully in 1988 in Lanling, Shandong. It is cultivated without the use of noxious chemicals and is free from pesticides. No sulphur treatment is used, and there are no heavy metal residues. It is sun-dried and minimally processed to retain nutrients and uniquely fermented to create root chips with a sweet, earthy flavour with crunchy texture which may be brewed as a tea or sucked and chewed directly. The taste is similar to American ginseng, earthy with a bittersweet taste.\n\nThere are records in Europe of 12th century use of burdock by Hildegard of Bingen for the treatment of cancerous tumours and both TCM and Ayurveda recommend it as an immune booster. It is also used to combat colds, flu, throat infections and pneumonia. It acts as a diuretic and diaphorectic and is one of the best known blood purifiers even proving helpful in curing eczema.\n\nLike dandelion, burdock is one of the herbs which help eliminate excess oestrogen in the body by acting as a diuretic to increase elimination and is thought to be useful to combat breast cancer. The following conditions may also benefit from adding burdock to the diet: anorexia nervosa, gastrointestinal (GI) complaints, osteoarthritis, gout, bladder infections, complications of syphilis, and skin conditions including acne and psoriasis.\n\nAs it thins the blood it should not be taken by those already on blood thinners and for those pregnant or trying to get pregnant it should also not be taken.
